To cash in on the popularity of 2001, and the musical goldmine reaped by MGM's use of previously recorded classical fare, CBS Masterworks said, "Us, too!"
The fanatical listener (like me) will note that the selections on Side 1 aren't "the exact same" as in the movie, but they're perfectly respectable presentations of all ends of the classical spectrum.
Some "tracks" on Side One have bridging sound-effects. When dubbing them, I faded out and in to separate the tracks.
The real fun is in Side 2, which is a repackaging of music by 20th-C Swedish composer
Karl-Birger Blomdahl, from his opera Aniara - An Epic Of Space Flight In 2038 A.D. There are sound effects, and otherworldly tones.
01. R Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra (Opening) (2:13)
02. Ligeti - Atmosphères (6:45)
03. J Strauss - The Blue Danube Waltz (4:54)
04. Ligeti - Lux Aeterna (8:43)
05. Khatchaturian - Adagio (from Gayne Suite No 2) (3:35)
06. R Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra (Opening) (1:51)
07. Blomdahl - Suite from Anaria (19:00)
02. Ligeti - Atmosphères (6:45)
03. J Strauss - The Blue Danube Waltz (4:54)
04. Ligeti - Lux Aeterna (8:43)
05. Khatchaturian - Adagio (from Gayne Suite No 2) (3:35)
06. R Strauss - Also Sprach Zarathustra (Opening) (1:51)
07. Blomdahl - Suite from Anaria (19:00)
Go on, fly out there in space, but hold your breath!
See you on Thursday, with a new music comp.
