High Steppers

This album is a wild ride and for me a mixed bag.

01 - They Are Valiant - Boris Alexander- The Red Army Ensemble
02 - Under the Oak Tree - Boris Alexander- The Red Army Ensemble
03 - Procession of the Sardar, from Caucasian Sketches - Siegfried Landau- Music For Westchester Symphony Orchestra
04 - Credo - Sergei Horbenko- The Black Sea Cossacks
05 - Kalinka - Nicolai Tripolitoff- The Cossacks of the Volga
06 - Polovtsian Dances, from Prince Igor - Siegfried Köhler- Philharmonia Hungarica
07 - Meadowland - Boris Alexander- The Red Army Ensemble
08 - Song of the Volta Boatmen - Sergei Horbenko- The Black Sea Cossacks
09 - Cortege, from Mlada - Richard Kapp- Philharmonia Hungarica
10 - Nightingale Song - Boris Alexander- The Red Army Ensemble
11 - Legend of the 12 Robbers - Sergei Horbenko- The Black Sea Cossacks
12 - Nights of Moscow - Nicolai Tripolitoff- The Cossacks of the Volga
13 - Along the Volga - Sergei Horbenko- The Black Sea Cossacks
14 - Sabre Dance, from Gayenne - Sandor Rekai- Bregenz Festival Orchestra

This 1992 release is music only a Cossack could love?!? At least some of it—the tracks with overwhelmingly schmaltzy male chorus, sometimes overridden by fruity solo vocals.

See you Monday.

More Tales from the Table Round

I don’t know if these selections are truly “medieval music” as the tray inlay proclaims, but the project is indeed enchanting, in a low-key sort of way. Though after awhile it becomes a lot of the same. I could do without the synth-voice reverbs I heard in Tracks 1 and 10.

01. La Magdalena (3:48)
02. Bransle De Poitou (1:28)
03. Pavane (1:40)
04. Pierre Attaignant Suite 1 (3:17)
05. Allons Faire Nos Barbes (2:15)
06. Allemande and Tanz (4:47)
07. Bransle Medley (4:27)
08. Five Villancicos (4:52)
09. Allemande (2:36)
10. Kurtzweilige Teutsche Lieder (4:53)
11. Pierre Attaignant Suite 2 (4:19)
12. Pierre Attaignant Suite 3 (4:35)

It’s my guess that the “Apollonia Orchestra” is either a bunch of studio musicians, or a guy with a talented synth.

See you Thursday, knights and knighties!

It's a great combo of lilting, dreamy, and cosmic.

Not for the High Strung

This is a 1999 cassette. And what a chore it was to dub for you, my friends!

Every track stopped abruptly.  There was studio noise at the beginning and end of the tracks.  I added some ending reverb and fadeout to every track.  As far as I can determine, this is the correct tracklist:

01. Alman (1:29)
02. Las Vacas (2:04)
03. Greensleeves (3:00)
04. Go from My Window (1:41)
05. Bianco Fiore (1:09)
06. Galliard (2:23)
07. Minuet (1:19)
08. Sarabande 1 (2:15)
09. Sarabande 2 (2:58)
10. Prelude in Dm (1:46)
11. Etude in Em (1:39)
12. Etude in C (1:06)
13. Etude in Am (2:38)
14. Etude in A (2:22)
15. Andantino (2:12)
16. Lagrima (1:42)
17. Waltz (2:02)
18. El Noy de la Mare (2:23)
19. Etude in Em (2:53)
20. The White Beach (3:11)

This release's track listing from his archived online catalog is incomplete and wrong.

NIGHTMARE AT 20,000 FEET
25. Cabin Fever - Nervous Pills 2:37
26. No Smoking 2:07

28. A Face in the Window 2:09
29. Hungry Monster - Engine Failure 1:36
30. Twilight Zone Theme - End Credits (Overture) (Marius Constant - Jerry Goldsmith) 5:55

I edited CCR's song to match the way it appears in the opening sequence, edited some versions with and without voiceovers, and also included a "Cartoon Collage" assembled by a wizard from the defunct Final Fantasy Shrine Forum.

Jerry Goldsmith was a great choice to score this film, since he'd worked on the original series.  it's a dadgum shame that the "Time Out" segment was scarred by death and scandal.

Hope you enjoy some remimiscences of this fun experience.

No "Sitar-zan" Jokes Please

Track 1 is recorded live, including coughing and applause. Track 2 – about halfway in, it starts sounding more and more like Chinese music!

01. Raga Malkauns (34:48)

03. Suite for Two Sitars and Indian Folk Ensemble, Part 2 (9:07)

You decide how Indian it is!  See you Thursday.

A Guitar Serenade

I found this on a thrift-store sojourn.  Looks like it was burned and printed via a home set-up.  It’s charming and brief.

01. Mangore - Vals (4:17)

03. Brouwer - Afro-Cuban Lullaby (3:03)
04. Zeromski - Ponteado (3:16)
05. Madureira - Romancario (2:24)

If you know anything about the artist, let me know.

See you Monday.
