Astounding British Music

GREENSLEEVES: The Beautiful Music of Ralph Vaughan Williams and Eric Coates

Some of this may be considered "light" music, particularly the Coates piece which closes the concert, but this is all just delicious in composition and performance.

This version of the "English Folk Song Suite" is the best.  Likewise the Greensleeves Fantasia. v Just superb.

Ralph Vaughan Williams

01 - Fantasia on "Greensleeves"  (5:17)

Flute: H. Bennet

02 - Fantasia on a Theme by Thomas Tallis  (16:04)

Cello: Harvey Shapiro

Viola: Walter Trampler

Violin: Harold Kohon, Max Pollikoff

English Folk Song Suite:

03 - 1 March ("Seventeen Come Sunday")  (3:01)

04 - 2 Intermezzo ("My Bonny Boy")  (3:56)

05 - 3 March ("Folk Songs from Somerset")  (3:20)

Eric Coates

London Every Day:

06 - 1 Covent Garden (Tarantelle)  (4:49)

07 - 2 Westminster (Meditation)  (5:25)

08 - 3 Knightsbridge (March)  (4:18)
Cello: Harvey Shapiro

I bought the LP thirty or so years ago, lost it, and finally tracked down its info.  I bought a lovely, clean copy on Discogs, and here we are.

Hope you enjoy.

Greensleeves

See you on Monday!
