I saw the LaserLight logo on the cassette, and figured something on here would be interesting.  There’s nothing more rousing than a big, clashing Russian overture, nor as sorrowful as a melancholy Russian dirge -- am I right?  

What a surprise -- I wasn’t expecting vocals.  Inside the flap we’re informed, “Traditional Russian music performed by well known Russian singers and orchestras.”

The voice of the female warbler, Alia Bajanova, reminds me of Ilona Massey’s in Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man.  Or maybe a young Marlene Dietrich!

These seem to be "National Songs of Sadness."  Nobody seems very happy in these Russian songs.  And some guy whistling at his runaway horse is not an addition to several of them.

I noticed that in the booklet, every song is synopsized except for two. One is Track 12, the fascinatingly titled “Someone's Horse Is Standing There.”  I guess that’s what everybody is whistling about?

The other mystery song is “Dark Eyebrows.”  We’ll never know if those eyebrows belong to a cow, a mannish girl, the singer’s dear old dad, or an alien from the planet Qwatloo.

There are interludes of NOT-Goldsmith music, because they were in the movie.  Track 1's edit matches what you hear in the movie, but with the actual song's ending.

Some of the cartoon music from the "It's a Good Life" are montages assembled by folks from the antique Final Fantasy Shrine Forum.  All credit to whoever they are!

Goldsmith came up with a wide swath of music that perked up this movie born with death on its head.  He made the film much greater than any other composer could have, I say.

          This is copyrighted 1991, but it certainly sounds as if it were hatched about 1983.  Every sound has been processed through red-hot synthesizer tubes for ultimate pasteurization.

          The arrangements are perky and interesting enough.  But a truly evil genius is apparent – when you’re able to listen to a whole minute or so – before you can even figure out what Beatle song the track is.

          Yes, the sinister magic apparent here is of the really frightening kind.  This album takes everything distinctive about the Beatles sound – and removes it!  All that was creative in the Beatles’ music – gone!

          This is the Pod Peoples’ version of the Beatles.  It is frightening to reflect that it was intended as a commercial release – I mean, somebody thought this would make money!  This stupendous achievement in trivialization is the auditory equivalent of dining on Styrofoam and sawdust:  You might be filled, but to no nutritional end.  Something happened, but whatever happened WASN'T EVEN THERE!
