This New age Ain't an Improvement!

DUBBED FROM AN LP – some surface noise.

01. Aria; Variations 1-15 (26:49)
02. Variations 16-20; Aria da capo (25:49)
Yes, it’s impressive, but it comes across as a stunt performance. Synth voices performing notes faster than a human voice could perform it, for instance. Great music which is ill served by the show-offish arrangement.

Decide for yourself!  New Age Bach

See you back here on Monday, for the beginning of ...

SPOOKY SPOCK-TOBER!

Can't you feel the chills already?!?!

10. Whispering Hope (3:45)

As you can imagine, this 1988 album is kinda countrified.  But you might like it anyway, as I did.  Check back on Thursday for more what-have-you!

Rite Springs Eternal

I bought this 1971 LP long ago (aftermarket) and I'm thrilled and moved.

01. Pavane (7:43)
02. Rite of Spring (9:04)
03. Syrinx (3:35)
04. Brandenburg Concerto No 3, First Movement (6:01)
05. Brandenburg Concerto No 3, Second Movement (4:28)

The only nitpicky thing I noticed was that the "second" movement of the Brandenburg is both the brief seguing 2nd movement of the original and the 3rd, run together.  No prob!

Hope you're charmed too.  See you on Monday!

Get Him Off That Guitar Before He Hurts Himself!

Or before these arrangements drive me mad.  MAD, I tell you!

Although you can't fault the guy for liking the Tahoma font, by the end you'll agree with me.  These are disgusting Easy Listening arrangements!

But Who's Counting?

It's a 1992 cassette.  Regarding the titular "twenty hymns," somebody can't count!  Even if you count track 14 as two "folk hymns," we're still one shy of 20!  This group is cheesy and smarmy and too Lawrence-Welkish for my taste, but I hear some peoples' musical tastes are different than mine.

01. My Jesus, I Love Thee (3:00)
02. Seek and Ye Shall Find (1:38)
03. How Firm a Foundation (2:42)
04. Like a River Glorious (2:12)
05. In the Cross (1:53)
06. When I Survey the Wondrous Cross (2:03)
07. Swing Low (1:21)
08. Amazing Grace (1:29)
09. We Shall All Be Reunited (2:34)
10. Wayfaring Stranger (2:51)
11. Day by Day (3:33)
12. Were You There (3:29)
13. In Christ There Is No East or West (0:59)
14. Softly and Tenderly / Just as I Am (2:38)
15. Oh, How I Love Jesus (1:04)
16. What a Friend We Have in Jesus (2:15)
17. In the Garden (2:14)
18. In the Sweet By and By (2:55)

Happy STAR TREK Day … from Spock and Me!

As you’ve probably heard, September 8 is a big hoop-de-doo day.  On September 8, 1966, Star Trek premiered.  Along with Jonny QuestThe Man from U.N.C.L.E., and The Adventures of Superman, it was a big influence on my growing up—if you allege that ever happened.

In July, 1980, family member Spock chose to investigate the concept of Sleep Learning.  After all, if it worked for Edgar Cayce, why not for the world’s best dog?  So he went to dreamland with his head cradled on some LPs in our inventory.

Directly under his schnozzola is the two-LP soundtrack for The Empire Strikes Back.  And to the left of that is a Peter Pan Star Trek story record.

You can see that Star Trek has passed down to many generations of the family. See you Monday.
