About This Blog!

Our beloved Spock (1978-1991) is featured in the header photo, in a photo from 1979. These are some of my LPs, themed compilations, and the like. PLEASE NOTE that since my previous host FileFactory has made itself useless, I am slowly but surely updating to DRIME. Please be patient, and email me with comments or questions to msuperfan1956@gmail.com – note that comments sent through Blogger DO NOT allow a personal response.

No Phlegm-ish Jokes, Just Fine Music

RE-POST FROM 2016:

This 1962 LP will be fun for you, if you're a fan of music made while our musical rules were still forming.  By turns labyrinthine and straightforward, lilting and harsh, it comes and passes, wishing only a few moments of your time.

     II. Branle and "Fagot"
2.  III. Two Rondes

3.  VI. Pavane "Mille regretz"
     VII. Pavane "La bataille"

I'll Space Out If You Will

This 1978 cover album is credited to "The Galactic Force Band."  This is the only release from "The galactic Force Band," so I suspect this was a studio group, perhaps assembled by a producer/arranger at the label.

1. The Conversation (Theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind)
2. Theme From 2001
3. Cantina Band from Star Wars
4. Space Dust
5. Main Title from Star Wars
6. Main Title Theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind
7. Theme from Star Trek
8. Galactic Go Go

But it's lotsa fun, campers!

See you Monday.

Be a Good Spy

This here 1965 gem is by a guitar wizard who was hampered by 1960s musical trends.  But it's a lot of fun.

1. Theme From The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
2. The Fugitive Theme
3. Secret Agent Man
4. Underwater Chase
5. The Third Man Theme
6. Slaughter On Tenth Avenue
7. Man Of Mystery
8. The Bronze Doll
9. Goldfinger
10. The Eye In Flat Five
11. A Quiet Thing

But as with many cover albums there are some filler "originals."

See you Thursday!

Still as Much Fun as 1966!

This here is one of my personal old-time favorites, bought by Mom for her youngest because she knew I loved ole Supes, and because she knew the musical from having read the text as published in an annual “best of” volume from the library.
According to Discogs, this “cover” record is a 1966 release.

01. It's Superman (1:56)
02. You've Got Possibilities (1:51)
03. Man of Steel (2:08)
04. Kryptonite (2:44)
05. Fortress of Solitude (2:21)
06. Mr. Mxyzptlk (2:04)
07. Bizarro Boogie (2:39)
08. Curse of the Double L (2:24)
09. Clark Kent's Secret Identity (3:04)
10. Metropolis by Night (2:37)

It's a Bird, It's a Plane, It's Superman

Only the first two tracks are from the musical. The rest are fillers, in a style well known to fans of 1960s “cover” records. I was able to recognize most of them:
03 - Man of Steel -- “Streets of Laredo”
04 - Kryptonite - “Sweet Betsy from Pike”
06 - Mr. Mxyzptlk -- unidentified, but I like the guitar “booinnng!” sound in a track named for a trickster.
07 - Bizarro Boogie -- similar to “Blue-Tailed Fly” and even Monty Python’s “Lumberjack Song”!
08 - Curse of the Double L -- This one riffs on the song of the Volga Boatmen.
09 - Clark Kent’s Secret Identity -- This one’s a version of “the worms crawl in, the worms crawl out.”
10 - Metropolis by Night -- It’s a hep version of the folk song “Cindy.”

You have to admit that the titles of these fillers are pretty exemplary of Super topics!

Have fun, my friends!  I know I did when re-listening a few minutes ago.  See you on Monday!
