See You Again in October!

We're taking a month to pray for cooler weather.  Spock and I will return with some spooky stuff in October!

Honeytree

This was released in 1972.  I always wondered if the deliberately unflattering photo was chosen as a sign of humility.

There are some great songs here from Nancy Henigbaum's first album.

01 - Only God      2:43
02 - Treasures      2:56
03 - Sweet Rain      2:00
04 - Hallelujah, Outasight      1:42
05 - Job's Song      1:58
06 - Resist The Devil 3:47
07 - So Much Man 2:05
08 - Clean Before My Lord 3:00
09 - I Don't Have To Worry 2:36
10 - Honeytree 4:57

Specifically, the second track, "Treasures," was sung to Joyce and I at our wedding by our sweet friend Susan Talley (now Brinkman).

Maybe the "Almost Best"

This is a fine collection of Big-Band -type stuff, culled from a two-cassette package that was released maybe in the 1980s.  Maybe not all the Big Numbers that I personally think of as THE BEST, but still fun.

8)  Charlie Barnet - Lumpy
9)  Blue Barron Band - Old Buttermilk Sky
10)  Count Basie - Circus in Rhythm

16)  Ziggy Elfman - And the Angels Sing
17)  Russ Case - I’ll Be Seeing You
18)  Buddy Morrow - The Wonder of You

Meco in Space

You see, it's not a copyrighted STAR TREK  image if tf you have those engine nacelles sticking straight out to the side instead of upwards 45 degrees.  I guess!

We revisit SF disco with Mr Meco, in his attempt to cash in on two movies from 1979.  STTMP you know and love (I hope).  The Black Hole was Disney's lumbering, bloated, lame attempt to come up with something fresh and exciting like Star Wars.  Yeah, right.

Here are the tracks:
01. Star Trek Medley
02. Love Theme From Star Trek
03. Theme From Star Trek
04. Theme From The Black Hole
05. Clearmotion
06. Space Sentry
07. Meteorites

MA-22 A Star to Steer By

The cover of this selection of space/flying saucer music features an interpretation of Betty Hill's star map.  Ever since, under hypnosis, Betty "recalled" a so-called "star map" on board the saucer that kidnaped her, people have been trying to link those dots and lines of hers to actual stars.

Be that as it may, other folks have been content to SING about space.  Here are the tracks:

1 - (When You) See Those Flying Saucers The Buchanan Brothers 1947
2 - Rocket Joe Bennett & The Sparkletones 1957
3 - Tiny Space Man Bill Carlisle 1957
4 - The Flying Saucer Goes West Buchanan and Goodman 1958
5 - Outer Space Santa The Lennon Sisters 1958
6 - Mope-itty Mope Boss-Tones 1959
7 - Asteroid Hop Jimmie Haskell And His Orchestra 1959
8 - Beep Beep Loiuis Prima 1959
9 - Beep, Beep Tom Glazer & Dottie Evans 1959
10 - UFOs Soul, Inc 1967
11 - Have You Seen The Saucers Jefferson Airplane 1970
12 - Supersonic Rocket Ship The Kinks 1972
13 - UFOs Undisputed Truth 1975
14 - Waiting For The UFOs Graham Parker 1979
15 - Flying Saucer Safari Suburban Lawns 1981
16 - The Alien song (for those who listen) Milla Jovovich 1994
17 - Subterranean Homesick Alien Radiohead 1997
18 - Fell In Love With An Alien The Kelly Family 1997

Spaced Out Disco

The Galactic Force Band was a name to be reckoned with in the shady world of cover bands in the 1970s.  While I still contend that DISCO SUCKS, I still appreciate the arrangements.  This LP is from 1978.

Here are the tracks:
1. The Conversation (Theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind)
2. Theme From 2001
3. Cantina Band from Star Wars
4. Space Dust
5. Main Title from Star Wars
6. Main Title Theme from Close Encounters of the Third Kind
7. Theme from Star Trek
8. Galactic Go Go

With All Our Love

That's the name of this 1973 album by a group called Children of the Day.

A year or two after that, Joyce or I bought the cassette.  Several songs are about marriage, because two of the group were married at the time.  Later, in the kind of development that makes Satan laugh, the wife divorced her husband and announced her homosexuality.  I understand she has a lucrative performing business in a small but wealthy number of Christian Homosexual schism of Protestant churches.

But in 1973, they had promised love to each other.

Here are the tracks:
01. Under the Shadow (Of My Wings)
02. If You'll Take My Hand
03. You're a Gift
04. Russ's Song
05. Two Lives, One Moment
06. Be Ye Still
07. Where Went the Days
08. Just Pretending
09. The Crucifixion
10. Can I Show You

And here is the link:   http://www.megaupload.com/?d=2RBJAL7R

On a personal note, track 4, "Russ's Song," means a lot to me.  Because Joyce sang it to me at our wedding!  Also on a personal note, our promises still hold.

Scarlatti Sonatas (2 discs)

This is just some great music.  Domenico Scarlatti wrote great, melodic, inventive stuff.  Jazz musician Bob James even came out with a synth version of some of his music a decade or more ago.

Disc One is Sonatas 1-19, and Disc Two is Sonatas 20-36.

I Don't Think It's Joe Montana the Football Player

More Disco Wackiness!

I was never a good dancer because I was too self-conscious.  I always admire those who can cut loose without worrying about how silly they must look.

Here is a list of the heavy-movin' beats:

01 - "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" Dance Fantasy
02 - V.M. IV
03 - Warp Factor II
04 - Love Star
05 - Fly Me to the Moon (In Other Words)
06 - It’s Peaceful Out There

Going for another job interview today.  Pray for me!

More Contemplative Sounds

Another concatenation of two Environments LPs from the 1970s.  I don't know the sources for the voices or the bells.  The "Intonation" cut sounds like about 500 guys moaning, and "Tintinnabulation" sounds to me like some of the bells are about as big as your car.

Here is the link:   http://www.megaupload.com/?d=SBRB6O9I

Of course, the cover design is mine own.

Hits of the '20s

Here's another treasure from the early 1960s (I would guess).

This album is plenty of fun.  I wish the songs had been performed more "straight"; I think I detect a little self-conscious cuteness in there.  But who am I to know?  It IS a fun romp.

These are the songs:
1 I'm Just Wild About Harry

2 Doodle-Doo-Doo
3 Hand Me Down My Walking Cane
4 Bill Bailey
5 Under The Bamboo Tree
6 Hello My Baby
7 Be My Little Baby Bumble Bee
8 Ida
9 Careless Love
10 Five Foot Two

---Yes, you have heard several of them in Warner Bros cartoons!

That's Fronken-STEEN!

John Morris wrote amazing soundtracks for several of Mel Brook's classic films.  This one contains much serious-sounding music that fits right in with the theme of this "Fractured Fairy Tale"-type monster movie.  His Eastern European-style lullaby that is the main title theme is really heartbreakingly lovely.
This release has 37 tracks.  All but the last two are unnamed.  This pair are album versions, from the original soundtrack release, of the Main Titles and "Puttin' on the Ritz."

Put.  the.  candle.  BECK.
