Scarlatti Harpsichord Sonatas

I think there were three LPs in the box set I ripped this from.  It has been long enough that I don't have a record of the performer.  But still they are fun, lively, and occasionally melancholy ... but not for long!

DISC ONE    contains Tracks 1-19: Sonatas 1-19.

DISC TWO contains Tracks 1-17: Sonatas 20-36

Hope they help you have a fun weekend, see you Monday.

Jumpin'?

I just love this rascal's music!  And even though it feeels to me as if he's being cheapened to have his music in a commercial for "joint health," if it introduces more folks to him, I'm OK with that outcome.

02 - Ain't Misbehavin'

Home-Taping Relic

In the 1980s I assembled a cassette for my own enjoyment from a few soundtrack LPs, a few rearrangements, and several recorded by holding a microphone in front of my TV speaker.  The two "suites" and the several extended/edited themes were recorded back in the days of physical buttons on cassette decks for PAUSE -- unlike more recent decks that "paused" by disengaging the tape heads -- and required a long process of trial-and-error.

Anyways, this is a 1980s relic that some of you might enjoy at least one listening-to.  I was pretty proud of the STAR TEK TV Theme before a magnet or gaussing process made the whole track phase in and out...

1 Star Wars Suite 12:14

Dreamy New Age Stuff

Here we have music from a couple of brothers named Gordon.  This tape came out in 1984.

It's a fine example of the "Calgon, take me away!" style of New Age music, ephemeral and just fine for closing your eyes in a dark room with a candle flame dancing before you.

The tracks are

01. Perception and Opening (23:02)

02. The Luminous Path (11:37)

03. Trancendence (6:10)

04. Sanctuary (5:39)

See you Monday for late Saint Paddy's Day!

Two-a-Day

Here's a legacy of vaudeville days.

I imagine that Benny and Blossom's mindset might have been similar to that of a couple of sci-fans of my age reminiscing about when there was only ONE Star Trek.

Here are the songs:

01 - Opening: That's Entertainment

02 - I Love A Piano

03 - Soft Shoe Song

04 - Lady, Play Your Mandolin

05 - Lullaby Of Broadway

06 - Toot Toot Tootsie Goodbye

07 - That Teasin' Rag

08 - Song And Dance Man

09 - June

10 - There's No Business Like Show Business

The Man from U.N.C.L.E. and Other TV Themes

This was a 1965 release on the Metro label, which I assume was a budget arm of MGM records.

This is a portmanteau album with performances by various ensembles.  The "Theme from Mr Novak" doesn't have a performer listed.

The two Man from U.N.C.L.E. numbers besides the Jerry Goldsmith theme are by Lalo Schifrin ("Illya") and Morton Stevens ("Night People").

It may have been a selling-point to have the star of Dr. Kildare sing a song supposedly from that show.  I never watched the show.

These are the tracks:

01. Theme from The Man from U.N.C.L.E. - Milton DeLugg and His Orchestra (1:45)

02. Theme from Mr Novak - (no artist credited) (2:08)

03. Daniel Boone - Milton DeLugg and His Orchestra (2:18)

04. Theme from Flipper - Milton DeLugg and His Orchestra (1:37)

05. Bonanza - David Rose and His Orchestra (1:39)

06. Illya - Milton DeLugg and His Orchestra (2:30)

07. Theme from Return to Peyton Place - LeRoy Holmes and His Orchestra (2:36)

08. Night People - Milton DeLugg and His Orchestra (2:38)

09. Three Stars Will Shine Tonight - Richard Chamberlain (2:36)

10. Theme from 12 O'Clock High - Milton DeLugg and His Orchestra (2:04)

Enjoy these MOR arrangements of once-hot TV properties!

Honeytree and Keeping a Promise

I bought this LP at the AMC around 1975.  AMC was an OKC version of a warehose store -- without any stupid membership nonsense.  It was nearly as big as a city block and carried all kinds of stuff, clothing and food and tools and musical instruments and records.

I think Nancy Henigbaum deliberately chose an unflattering cover photograph to show her devotion to the Lord and not try to sell the record based on a glamorous image.  The songs are pretty solid. I always liked "Resist the Devil," the first song on side two.

Joyce and I had our friend Susan Talley sing track two, "Treasures," at our wedding.  These are the lyrics, typed from memory.

Treasures

(Nancy Henigbaum)

What does it mean to you when you find a friend who is true?
Do you count all your treasures less precious than this?
I know two people who do.
When you are blessed do you share?
Does someone know you care?

What does it mean to you, the hands that the nails ran through?

Do you hold onto Jesus, and trust Him, my friend?
I know two people who do.
They do because they have found
He’ll never let them down.

What does it mean to you? They say to each other “I do.”

Do you feel that their promise will live ’til they die?
I  know two people who do.
They know that Jesus will stay
Close to them every day.

Oh, what does it mean to you? You say to each other, “I do.”
Do you feel that your promise will live ’til you die?
I know in Jesus you do.

(BTW last month, we celebrated anniversary number thirty-five.)

These are the songs:
01 - Only God 2:43
02 - Treasures 2:56
03 - Sweet Rain 2:00
04 - Hallelujah, Outasight 1:42
05 - Job's Song 1:58
06 - Resist The Devil 3:47
07 - So Much Man 2:05
08 - Clean Before My Lord 3:00
09 - I Don't Have To Worry 2:36
10 - Honeytree 4:57
And here is the link:  http://rapidshare.com/files/685321628/HT1.rar

I have a feeling that Nancy Henigbaum chose this performing name because"henigbaum," her last name, is two German words "honey" and "tree" put together.

Spaced Out Disco

Don't ask me who the Galactic Force Band may have been, because that information is lost among the stars.  But they left this momento from 1978.

Let's Try a Different Host

I still am looking for someone as dependable (and fast) as MegaUpload, that demonized hosting service that is still offline.

This is a fine album of "early" Space Music, dubbed from the commercial cassette.  These are the tracks:

1) Horizons Beyond Infinity

2) Stardance

3) Starjourney

4) Gymnopedie

...You'll want to have no pause between tracks 2 and 3.  Or even better, cross-fade them ... -- When burning to CD.

Here is the link:  http://www.fileden.com/files/2009/10/6/2595114/Starmusic.rar

See you next week, I hope!

Any Suggestions?

Since my previous file hoster, MegaUpload, appears to be toast, I would like some suggestions as to where to move the music!

There's FileDen, there's FileFactory, there's MediaFire, there's 4Shared ... and more...

4Shared will leave a file up 180 days, and that may be the longest.

When I make a decision, I will have to re-up and change all the previous links.  This will take a while!

So, in the meantime, please give me some suggestions for a free hosting service.  Until then, Spock's headphones will be empty!

See ya!

Natural Light

Here is some more mellow, flowing, new agey-type of stuff.  It's dreamy and great for listening to in the dark, lying on your back on the floor, with a lit candle just above your head, while you watch the candlelight's circle dancing on the ceiling.

I can't do that any more, because now we have a celiing fan in every room, and it kind of ruins the effect.

Still, it's fun stuff.  Here are the tracks:

1 Natural Light 7:04

2 Play Of Light 4:02

3 Harp And Soul 4:09

4 Firelight 3:33

5 Shared Visions 4:07

6 Butterfly And The Lotus 4:25

7 Flowing With The Changes 4:30

8 Serenity 3:31

9 The Light In Your Eye 7:57

Golden Barbershop Ballads

This is a cassette originally issued in the mid 1960s, I believe.  To my mind, I wish the performanes wre a little LESS golden.  Maybe a little raggedness here and there would make it sound less like an insulated recording studio and more like a barbershop.

Nevertheless, it's fun music.  Here's what Billboard magazine had to say in 1965:

Here are the numbers included:

01 - When You're A Long, Long From Home - Four Hearseman

02 - Little Pal - The Rascals

03 - My Ideal - The Gala-Lads

04 - A Little Street Where Old Friends Meet - Sun Tones

05 - I'll Take You Home Again, Kathleen - Easternaires

06 - Did Your Mother Come From Ireland - Play Tonics

07 - For Me And My Gal - Sidewinders

11 - Danny Boy - Easternaires

12 - Down By The Old Mill Stream - The Rhythm Counts
